Phyllida was told on several location that she could not draw and now she has had a solo exhibit of her drawings.

In the talk they referred to  the difference between John McCracken’s early sculptures which he made himself to the later ones which apparently were not.

Eva Hess was also briefly mentioned.

Ideas Discussed:

Abuse the craft of sculpture don’t just use it, no ceremony in process, work from rebellion.

Picasso

– if you are going to use a nail you need to re-invent it

– I don’t seek I find

syntax of sculpture, about the physical actions of doing rather than knowing what it will be

The end.

Making art for a known audience does not need to happen because it is only solving a problem (design vs art). Lack of belief in the exhibition. Art won’t lie down.
